SAB NewsNew Director of The Science Advisory BoardPosted 3/26/2010 As the new Director of The Science Advisory Board, I wanted to take an opportunity to introduce myself to you. I come to the Science Advisory Board with a diverse scientific and business background. My career began in a biochemistry laboratory studying protein/nucleic acid interactions and has included stops in process development at a biopharmaceutical company and business development at a CRO engaged in clinical drug development. As such, this role at The Science Advisory Board presents a new personal and professional challenge for me, and I look forward to working with and meeting you. My Goals The Science Advisory Board is a growing professional network that plays a critical role in bridging the communication gap between life science product manufacturers and their customers. In order to meet this challenge we must support our current members needs, while working hard to grow our community’s membership. To that end, I have compiled a set of goals that the staff at The Science Advisory Board will work to achieve in the coming year. Ensure responsive service and support to Members Everyone here at The Science Advisory Board is committed to providing you with the service and support you deserve. The Science Advisory Board’s greatest asset is its membership, and I am personally committed to providing prompt and appropriate service to all of our members. Identify ways to enhance interaction and networking opportunities among Members Science Advisory Board members should benefit from more than just the content and resources available on the Web site. In the near term, I plan on organizing events for SAB members in conjunction with major conferences where local SAB members can join out-of-town conference attendees. In the long-term we will continue to look for opportunities to facilitate networking opportunities amongst our members. Look for an announcement of our first event in Washington DC in conjunction with the annual AACR Conference in April. Increase The Science Advisory Board’s membership to 65,000 As of March 2010, The Science Advisory Board consisted of nearly 48,000 members. It is my goal to increase the membership to over 65,000 qualified life science professionals. A diverse membership ensures that the opinions of the Board’s experts (including you) will have a powerful voice in shaping the development of products and services in the life sciences industry. Launch a New and Improved Science Advisory Board Website For many years the current SAB website has acted as a gathering place for our membership. While this venue has been effective for many years, it is time for an upgrade to this interface. This new site should allow us the flexibility to more appropriately tailor our service offerings to suit the needs of our ever-growing professional network. I hope you are excited about my vision for The Science Advisory Board. This community would not exist without the support of our membership. I look forward to working with you to make The Science Advisory Board even more valuable to you. Please feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions you may have for your community.
